‘“Requests the pleasure of your company,”!’ I sneered. ‘Who does she think she is, The Queen?

‘What’s more,’ I said with a scowl, ‘that’s tonight. How come we’ve been invited last minute?’

‘Cousin “Myles”, of course,’ chuckled Jake. ‘Sophie’s desperate to meet him. Especially after last night’s football. Aliens are all the rage now. Looks like Cameron Hicks is right off her hit list!’

Immediately Eeek’s pale pink eyes lit up.

I raised my eyes to the ceiling. ‘Sophie Marr is a girl you know, Eeek!’

Eeek smiled and widened his eyes further, which made me rather worried.

‘Anyway, he can’t go!’ I said, remembering myself.

‘Why not?’ said Jake.

‘Because he’s stolen from my parents!’ I said firmly. ‘Eeek’s going home this morning, aren’t you, Eeek?’

At this, Eeek burst into tears again making me look the real ogre. Don’t ask me why, but I sort of felt sorry for him.

After much discussion, a lot of alien sobbing, and quite a bit of arguing between me and Jake, it was finally agreed that Eeek could stay and come to the party if he promised that:

1) He would stick by me at all times.

2) He would head home to his family straight afterwards.
